Our History

Southside Church of God, also known as South China Grove Church of God, was founded in 1963 by Rev. J.T. Miller with a mission to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in the spirit and power of Pentecost. For over 50 years, the church has faithfully served its community through worship, outreach, and compassionate care.

Under the leadership of Pastor Joyce Miles, the church strengthened its focus on outreach. In 2011, Gloria Ross was appointed Outreach Director, bringing both her calling in ministry and her experience as a Registered Nurse. By 2012, Southside Community Outreach was established, growing into a ministry that reached tens of thousands through food distribution, health services, and community support.

After Pastor Michael Oney’s tenure and retirement, Gloria Ross was called to serve as pastor while continuing her health ministry. Under her leadership, the church’s outreach efforts received regional recognition and continued to make a meaningful impact.

Today, Southside Church of God remains a small church with a big heart—continuing its mission through its food pantry, foster care support, and ongoing community outreach.
